Anthem and Schumacher Clinical Partners Reach Network Agreements for Hospitalist Groups in Southwest Virginia

ER groups owned and managed by Schumacher remain out of network.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and affiliate HealthKeepers, Inc. are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Schumacher Clinical Partners for their hospitalist groups to join our professional provider networks. This means that the hospitalist groups in the table below are participants in our professional provider networks for our following health plans, effective October 19, 2018:
 
  • Anthem’s PAR/PPO health plans including the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan (also called the Federal Employee Program® or FEP)
  • Anthem HealthKeepers plans including health plans purchased on or off the Health Insurance Marketplace
  • Anthem HealthKeepers Plus (Medicaid/FAMIS and the Commonwealth Coordinated Care Plus plans)
  • Medicare Advantage health plans
Schumacher Clinical Partners owns and manages the following hospitalist groups which are the exclusive hospitalist providers serving the Lewis Gale hospitals and are now network participating. The Lewis Gale hospital locations are Salem, Montgomery, Pulaski and Alleghany.

Schumacher Clinical Partners owns and manages the emergency medicine groups serving Lewis Gale facilities. These groups remain out-of-network.
 
While we have been in contract talks for several months with Schumacher Clinical Partners to obtain network participation agreements for their emergency room (ER) groups, we have been unsuccessful in reaching an agreement with the contracting firm to date. Schumacher Clinical Partners owns and manages the following ER groups which are the exclusive emergency medicine providers serving the Lewis Gale hospitals including the Salem location’s freestanding ER:

Please note that this notification ONLY applies to the ER groups owned and managed by Schumacher Clinical Partners.  All Lewis Gale hospital locations remain network participating facilities. The hospitals and all other hospital-based service providers at Lewis Gale locations remain part of our Anthem PAR/PPO and Anthem HealthKeepers networks.  
 
We remain in negotiations with Schumacher Clinical Partners and are hopeful that we can come to an agreement to have the ER groups join our comprehensive network of participating physicians’ groups. Please check back at this site for updates as they become available.

In fact, keeping health care costs fair for everyone is one of our main responsibilities.
